Liberalism according to the average European

If all nations had the same culture, the world would have been a boring place!

I hear this question nearly each time I speak to a European about Islam, why are people in this country or that not liberal? I always answer them with this question, can you define liberal? Unfortunately, none of them has ever been able to define what liberal truly means and they all mistakenly link liberalism with two things and two things only. The first thing is women veil and the second thing drinking alcohol. So according to the average European if a woman chooses to wear the veil, this automatically takes her freedom away from her! I know what you are thinking now, do women in modern Islamic nations have the choice to wear the veil or are they made to?
